The different grades of concrete are given as M10, M15, M20, M25, M30, M35 and M40.

In the classification of concrete mix, the letter **M** denote **Mix design,** and the **Numbers** represent the predetermined works **cube strength** of 15cm cube after curing of **28 days** in N/mm2.

The works cubes strength refers to the strength archived by concrete after 28 days curing.

The compressive strength of the concrete should not be greater than 5% of the test results are expected to fall.

M10 = 10N/mm2 compressive strength after 28days.

M15 = 15N/mm2 compressive strength after 28days.

M20 = 20N/mm2 compressive strength after 28days.

M25 = 25N/mm2 compressive strength after 28days.

M30 = 30N/mm2 compressive strength after 28days.

M35 = 35N/mm2 compressive strength after 28days.

M40 = 40N/mm2 compressive strength after 28days.

##### Below are different grades of concrete and there Area of Application on Site

###### [1] M10 {1:3:6}

**For: **

Patio slabs

Pathways

Non-structural work

###### [2] M15 {1:2:4}

**For:**

Pavement kerbs

Floor blinding

###### [3] M20 {1:1.5:3}

**For: **

Domestic floors.

Foundations (where the weight of structure will be lighter).

Workshop bases.

Garages.

Driveways.

Internal floor slabs.

###### [4] M25 {1:1:2}

**For: **

Construction in all areas.

Multi-purpose concrete mix.

Any Foundations.

###### [5] M30

**For: **

Pathways and roadways (this is the lowest grade concrete mix that can be used for this purpose).

More durable than the other grades.

Its Weather-resistant.

Can take heavy road traffic.

###### [6] M35

**For: **

Commercial structures.

Creating external walls and slabs.

Structural piling.

###### [7] M40

**For: **

Commercial construction sites,

Creating foundations and beams for structural support and roads.

M40 can withstand chemical corrosion also, so is frequently used on farms where slurry could corrode structures, or in septic tanks.

###### NOTES

• M5 and M7.5 concrete also exist which can be used in learn concrete bases/mud and for ordinary masonry wall foundation.

• Concrete grade less than M15 should not be used in reinforced concrete.
